The Hoss’s Community Day was held in conjunction with twenty-four (24) Hoss’s locations throughout central Pennsylvania and was very successful! Mission Central’s Development Director, Norma Bigham, worked with Hoss’s Marketing Assistant, Angel Horon, and their Director of Sales, Bridget Bingham, to develop promotional initiatives.
“Events like this are such a win/win for us and the fundraising organization. We are delighted to have the extra traffic and the group is thrilled to have the extra cash,” said Bob Pleva, Hoss’s Executive Vice President. “We have had other groups attempt multi-location events in the past, but never to this level of success. Norma and her team took this event very seriously and did a great job coordinating communication within their group, as well as with each Hoss’s location. This type of success is not by accident. It was a pleasure to serve this group,” said Bridget Bingham. “We are grateful to the tremendous support of our church congregations as well as local ecumenical churches who advertised our event,” added Kathy Briner, Deputy Director of Mission Central. “It was a great day to meet with church associates as well as family and friends with an indoor picnic atmosphere. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and fellowship.” George Sackandy, President of Mission Central’s Board of Managers, expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Board to the Hoss’s family for making this opportunity possible. “Hoss’s Steak and Sea House has a well deserved legacy of being philanthropic leaders in the communities that they serve,” said Sackandy. “Mission Central is thrilled that we were chosen to be one of those organizations to benefit from their incredible generosity. Hoss’s Founders, Bill and Nancy Campbell, have set the standard that all corporations could use to demonstrate their appreciation for their customers loyalty by “paying forward” and returning a portion of their operating revenues to non profits that improve the quality of life in their communities." Norma Bigham contacted managers of the selected Hoss’s restaurants, as well as churches within the direct vicinity where Hoss’s Community Day would be held. Seventeen of the twenty-four restaurants qualified for contributing revenues to Mission Central. Over 50,000 tickets were distributed through local and regional efforts with additional support by Mission Central’s Board of Managers. Mission Central is affiliated with The Susquehanna Conference of The United Methodist Church and is supported through various venues from 900-plus church congregations throughout central Pennsylvania in addition to Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and Pocono Mountain districts. Over 3700 volunteers provide assistance in preparation for disaster relief and disaster response. Mission Central also provides mission education, special programs such as Arms Around Africa, Missions Near and Far, and Marketplace in Ministry. The next Marketplace in Ministry, an annual fair held on location at Mission Central, will be Saturday, October 2, 2010. More information is available on the web site at www.missioncentral.org. Hoss's Family Steak & Sea Attends 94rd Annual Pennsylvania State Farm Show "Sale of Champions" Harrisburg, PA: Hoss's CEO and Founder, Willard E. (Bill) Campbell, attended the Pennsylvania State Farm Show "Sale of Champions" in Harrisburg, PA, on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. The 16-acre Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in America. It proudly recognizes Pennsylvania’s 50,000 farm families. Including something for everyone, the Farm Show provides opportunities to see the latest in agricultural technologies, Pennsylvania foods, and fine arts and crafts. Mr. Campbell purchased the Grand Champion Steer. The crossbred steer was exhibited by 12 year-old, Bryce Fitzgerald of Chester County. Mr. Campbell paid $15,000 for the 1,460 lb. steer and bought many other animals throughout the sale. Mr. Campbell, who has grown Hoss's Family Steak and Sea restaurants to a total of 38 locations throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states, bids on the animals to support the youth involved in the 4-H and FFA organizations. He and his wife, Nancy, attend many of the livestock sales at the county fairs throughout the year. In 2006, he set a record at the PA State Farm Show when he purchased the Grand Champion Steer for $28,500. Mr. Campbell, a former member of the FFA, looks forward to attending the auctions to support the youth and to give something back to organizations that benefit deserving individuals. Maria Brandt, Arc Executive Director, had this to say, "Hoss’s has a history of allowing students in high school who have a delay in learning train at their restaurants through a school program and has gone on to employ several of the students following graduation. The schools have informed me that Hoss’s is very gracious when approached about having individuals train at their restaurants. Individuals who have a developmental disability are not regaled to the kitchen but have jobs visible to the public, which sends a message of inclusion and that we are all part of the same community, working and living together." Congratulations to Mark Dubyak and his team! |

“The annual Altoona Lock Up brings together local executives to fundraise for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Local executives are “locked–up” for an hour and make telephone calls to friends, family, and co-workers to ask for donations. Jail birds are served “gourmet” bread and water, supplied by a local favorite, Hoss’s Steak and Sea House; and are able to network and have a great time. All this while helping the MDA and Jerry’s kids!” Quote by: Wendy Murdy, Executive Director of MDA in Pittsburgh.
In conjunction with The Arc of Blair County, the Blair County Human Resources Management Association presented Altoona Hoss's with the Workplace Diversity Award on November 18, 2009.
